Your home's locks should keep the right people in and everyone else out. Titan Lock & Key's mobile locksmiths bring residential locksmith service to houses, townhomes, apartments and rental properties across the Chicagoland suburbs, with professional tools and common hardware already in our service vehicles.

Lock rekeying

Rekeying swaps out the small pins inside a lock cylinder so it works with a brand-new key. The lock stays on your door, but every key that worked before stops working. Most people rekey after buying a home, when a tenant or roommate moves out, or when a key goes missing. If you have several doors with different keys, we can often rekey them to work on a single key.

Deadbolt installation

A knob lock on its own is easy to force. A properly installed deadbolt adds a solid bolt that extends into the door frame. We bore the door cleanly, set the bolt so it throws fully, and fit the strike plate so the bolt slides in without catching. Single-cylinder, double-cylinder and keyed-alike options are available.

Smart lock installation

Smart locks let you unlock your door with a keypad code or a phone app, and many let you create temporary codes for guests, dog walkers, cleaners or contractors, which is handy for rental properties too. We install smart deadbolts and keypad locks on new and existing doors. A smart lock works best when the door is lined up properly, so we check that the bolt throws freely and doesn't strain the motor, then help you set up your first codes before we leave. Most smart locks keep a key cylinder as a backup, and we can key it to match your other locks.

High-security locks

High-security locks use more complex pin systems, hardened parts and restricted keyways to resist picking, bumping and drilling. Many use keys that can't be copied at a hardware store, so you decide how many keys exist for your home. That's especially useful for rental properties and home offices.

Residential lock installation, repair and replacement

We install and repair knob and lever locks, handlesets, patio door locks and garage entry door locks, and replace locks that are worn, damaged or past saving. A lot of lock trouble comes from the door itself, such as a shifted strike or a door that has dropped on its hinges, so we look at the whole picture to make the fix last. Questions

Common questions

What's the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?

Rekeying changes the inside of the lock so a new key works and old keys don't. Replacing swaps out the whole lock. If your lock is in good shape and you like how it looks, rekeying is normally the more affordable option.

Should I rekey after buying a house?

It's a good idea. You have no way of knowing how many copies of the old keys were handed out to previous owners, contractors, neighbors or real estate agents.

Single or double cylinder deadbolt?

A single-cylinder deadbolt has a key outside and a thumb turn inside. A double-cylinder needs a key on both sides. Double-cylinder deadbolts can slow you down in an emergency, so think carefully before choosing one for a door you'd use to get out.
